I've actually been photographing my market hauls, but just never got around to uploading the images. In any case, here's yesterday's goods. I was very conservative with what I bought because we had a lot of leftovers from the week to eat and I didn't want to buy a bunch of produce that would go bad.

Clockwise from the kale: Kale, baby salad greens, heavy cream, heirloom tomatoes of various types, whole chicken, cucumber salad, pork blade roast, sweet italian sausage, cranberry/etna shell beans.

Closeup of the tomatoes.

Pork products went into the freezer, the chicken was poached with ginger and scallions, a tomato went with the salad greens -- the others will be used for various things over the next couple of days. I shelled the beans last night and then put them in the freezer. Cream went into porridge and the leftovers into some homemade ice cream. The kale we'll probably braise tonight and have with some cold chicken.

*sigh*

I miss good fresh produce. You'd think living in the middle of farm country will mean good produce, but alas, paradoxically, the only available produce here are chain stuff that's been harvested before time, kept on ice, and shipped across miles of roads so as to ensure absolute tastelessness and utter void of deliciousness.

*is envious*

My friend Nadia (meh_of_munich) had the exact same experience when living in Central Illinois. Insane!

I feel all deliciously dirty...

Actually, I got a HUGE haul from my local market this week for a mere EU11. I couldn't believe it.
