Bah. Ten days on the West Coast have left my complexion in a tizzy. I had to switch up face soaps to something ultra ultra mild because my skin got so dry and irritated (it helped, a lot), but now I'm in payback time. My skin is simultaneously oily, flaky, on the verge of a full-scale break-out (but mercifully that hasn't happened yet), and I've got a zit on my chin. OK, it's a small one, but as it emerged yesterday at work, I swear I could hear it laughing at me. Fucker.

If I had more of a sense of humor about these things, I'd change my avatar to Pizza the Hut. Instead, I give you ASS.

My skin suffered (dried out) over the holidays, think it was prolly just central heating and lack of air/poor circulation. I'm alternating exfoliation (read: scrub face with dry, crunchy towel) and OTT moisturisation.

But I must say that I love, love, love Dermalogica's 'barrier repair' thingy. It's anhydrous and you put it on before your moisturiser. It doesn't sting even on the most delicate skin: it soooooothes. Hours later you can still feel its presence, even in the places that would usually be dry again by then. It's probably all lipid and silicone, who cares? :)

Your post explained so much to me (about me).

I had even commented on the general dryness while I was there - most of us had static hair at one point or another - but I totally didn't connect it to my skin. I was trying to work out what cleansing products I had changed.

ASS, but thank you.

No, no, no--ASS is just so last year, remember?

I'm sure you still look wonderful, but I hereby declare that you should treat yourself to a nice facial to make yourself feel better. Call the spa right this second! ;-)

Ugh that sounds awful and like a lot of ASS.

I thought I was the only one who sometimes got both oily and flaky skin and totally blamed it on the Tube/the weather/stress/ASS.

Hope it gets better soon!

I had a beauty on my forehead over the weekend and I called him Derek. We had fun but alas, Derek is no more. He met an untimely end when introduced to Mr Alcholbasedaftershave.

Sympathy, my dear: zits really suck. And it's difficult to have a sense of humour when your skin's crappy.

Do any of you in the UK remember the Young Ones book that had a pic of Vyvian where he'd drawn a huge circle round a spot and written 'look at my lovely spot' in marker pen?

Soz for spamming your LJ, Martha.

This is simply the last remaining bits of the Year of ASS toxins being purged from your body?

I went to a dermatologist and got a prescription for antibiotics to clear up my skin. Because I don't think I should have to put up with acne AND wrinkles. That just isn't fair.

Seriosly, I thought the contract explained that I would be done with zits once I was no longer a teenager. I want a refund, god!

Skin problems are no fun. I hope it's getting better soon and you find a good balance.

Ahhh! Visits to the 'rents used to always make my skin all kinds of crazy (more so than usual!). I used to think it was stress, but after I fired the more unpleasant members of my family, I figured it was the air quality or water or something like that. Maybe its the recycled air in planes that turn me into a wrinkles + zits monster.
Meanwhile... I have a facial in my future (and I think I'm gonna ask my local place about Dermalogica, because a recommendation from a friend of Martha's is a good one indeed!

Now, now. Calm, calm.

Don't sweat the little things. There are much more deserving things to be referred to as such.
