I hate MCI

I am trying to shut off our landline, but due to some incredibly stupid shit, they will not do it (my old roommate's name is still on the bill, and no, I have no idea where the fuck she is these days). Of course, they've been happy to take my money, and move the landline with me for 4 fucking years (and three apartments), despite me not being The Proper Person. I am considering blocking payment on their bill from my bank (automatic debit) until I get someone other than Call Center India on the horn. Mostly, it's very hard for me to not start cussing the poor call center people out for their parent company's incompetence, but I keep calm because it's not their fault MCI is a pack of fuckwits. I mean, I've asked that the name be changed on this bill consistently for four fucking years and they can't manage it. Fuck them right in the fiber optics, the cunts.

well, if it's not in your name, you don't have to pay, do you?

Yeah, I was going to say if you are on the bill too, just take your name OFF the bill and stop paying it. If you aren't on it at all, block the payments. That will get their attention.

Uh, but don't use it, either.

There be no problem of that -- the phone is in the closet. :)

I reckon telecoms companies must the most incompetent companies in existence when it comes to customer service.
Is there anyone who has never had an issue with them that was a problem to resolve?

Not being able to change to name on the bill ranks as high farce. That it's taken four years and still hasn't been done is facepalm-worthy.

Were I you, I'd go for the blocking payment thing, but the problem with that is that I'm unsure of what the consequences of it might be.
Best to find out for sure first.

Well, technically and legally they probably can't do anything. Firstly, they should have told me four years ago that it's impossible to change the name on the bill without power of attorney (so, their fuckup). Or they could have said it in any of the intervening times I've moved (3 separate times in 4 years). But no, this problem only comes up when I wish to cancel service? Fuck them.

BTW -- that avatar is the best.

Let me get this straight. They won't let you change the name and they won't let you cancel. You don't use the line.

This is actually one of the main reasons the FCC Enforcement Bureau exists. I know because I worked there. Report this abuse. Do it now.

Dude! Thank You for that link! OMG. I've been dealing with this stupid AOL Talk America, which we thought was internet, turned out to be local and long distance phone service, which was taken over by Cavalier phone company. Didn't know we had it til I cancelled AOL. These Cavalier people have been debiting my account for a yr now. We had to cancel the card. Been arguing with them for a yr. Sent them written letters and all. *ducks* MCI has been our local and long distance landline for years and still is.
