Farmers Market in Late Fall -- Sunchokes!

Shopped for our contributions to Thanksgiving dinner at the Farmers Market:
Kabocha (aka Delica) squash and Ambercup squash soup (will be dressed with yogurt and smoked-paprika oil)
Gold Ball Turnips and Scarlet Turnips (buttered and mashed)
Brussel Sprouts (steamed)
(I'll also be making the cranberry sauce, but I have to find cranberries elsewhere).
Also bought bacon from Flying Pig Farms. I scored some homemade dill pickles from the Crazy Mustache Guy's stand. Gods, I love pickles.
I also broke down and bought sunchokes, a root vegetable I've eaten before, but never cooked. Figured I might as well try something new.

Date: 2007-11-17 09:04 pm (UTC)Dill pickles are awesome. And Flying Pig Farm is hilarious.
Also, yay for brussel sprouts. Everybody plus my brother seems to hate them, but I really like them. My mum used to do them in a pot with a bit of oil so they would be mostly steamed but a bit of stir-fried as well, which added a lovely crisp taste to them. I never understood that I didn't have to fight my brother for getting a second helping.

Date: 2007-11-18 03:41 am (UTC)you would love sunchokes, although I am unsure of their availability in DE. Instead, you should find some Teltower Ruebchen and enjoy them:
