My n00bs, the summer interns, they gave me a card you can plant in the ground to grow wildflowers, a box of amazing artisanal chocolates, and a gift certificate to Jim Hanley's comic universe. Mostly I was just happy that they felt they learned a whole bunch during their time here, and felt that I was more a help than a hindrance to that.

I'm such a sap.

Awww, that's so cute. NoObs like that should be cherished.

Yeah, why don't we get more of them and less trolls on the board?

Sadly, big ol' trolls have a tendency to drown out the poor little noObs with all that noise and hot air... :(

The geek side of my brain demands that we need an emergency team of Drowned Men for that. Resurrect the drowned little noobs and damn the godless trolls (bonus if they get themselves banned in the flamewar-to-come over the 'godless' quote).

What is dead can never die/but rises again/geekier and stronger.

We do have a "Drowned God" cocktail. It's a Bloody Mary with wasabi, Clamato and seaweed.

This idea is nothing short of brilliant.

Will we feed the damned trolls to some sort of Lovecraft inspired tentacle monster? It still would be in keeping with the theme and all...not to mention satisfying!

That's great! It was very thoughtful of them. When our students leave they usually go screaming out the door.....hhmmmm?? I wonder what the problem is?

The plant will grow better with drops of blood from your pen.

Hey, d'you see Johnny Rotten as a guest on Fox Football Fone-In this past Tuesday night? Awrrrsome :o)

Oh shit, no! Crap, that would have been entertaining.

Yeah, I like that program to begin with, but to then add Johnny Rotten as a guest? Amazing. The convo was about his love of Arsenal growing up near north London's Finsbury Park; the best players in England and the best teams in Europe; how he was never a good player ("hopeless," he described it); how Arsenal will survive without Thierry Henry; and more. Only one question related to music; when Cohen asked him if he knew that the Sex Pistols would be so influential and have such an impact on popular music and culture, Rotten replied "No, never," then grinned at the camera and continued, "That would make me conceited!"

You failed at corrupting them somewhere. It does not sound like you trained them to be good little snarky cynics.

Still. Flowers!

Alas, "cynic" is not really a useful term in the PopSci paradigm. Skeptical, yes, but the magazine has a very optimistic bent and I had to teach them that. Yes, it was weird.

That's fabulous that they were so graciously appreciative of benefiting from your presence in their lives.
