Yes, my eternal nemesis, the Horse chestnut tree (aka Kastanienbaum or Aesculus hippocastanum) is in bloom, and my sinuses are letting me know this fact rather forcefully. Ugh. Here's to a week of drugging myself to the gills, then all will be well again. Stupid trees.

And you're getting close enough to take photos of it?!

Anyway, I sympathize. Allergies suck.

Did you make sure the new apartment does not have any of these nearby?
My enemy is oak trees, and yes there are 3 right in my front yard. Along with mold, and yes it has been raining alot in the past few weeks. If there was a god he hates me.

weren't chestnuts supposed to have some sort of a disease that will make them extinct in the next decade or so?

That's the American Chestnut (http://www.acf.org/). They were once widespread here. They were a staple in native diet and their wood was used for a variety of things (as well as just being beautiful). Quite sad really. :( Other species of chestnut are blight resistant.

My personal nemesis is the Cottonwood. Which, you may recall, grows about every five feet in the Sacramento Valley.

That alone is enough to ensure that I will never, ever reside in Sacramento ever again. Ever. It's hostile territory.

I've never worked out who my nemesis is - he's a sneaky bastard who comes along in early spring then pops up again right at the end of summer.

Look on the bright side - At least you know that it's only a week - think of all the poor sods who suffer continuously ;)

Biergartens are always built under chestnut trees, so if I ever develop that particular allergy I will be very much fucked. So much for trying to convince you to move to Munich :-b
