Nostalgia Whiplash: Pretty In Pink

Yes, I have been totally suckered into watching this gem tonight. I think I need to start dressing like this. Beats the shit outta being mo'fessional.

Shall we practice on melons? ;-)

Dressing like which one? That is the question, you know.

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm all about gender identity these days. So Duckman it is. ;-)

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
(for the record I actually like some of her outfits. Just not that *hair* (dear gods no)

[identity profile] weaklingrecords.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I have always and will always love her. Even her hair. Even *that* hair.

Freek.

They look like they're 12. God I'm feel so freaking old right now.

[identity profile] meh-of-munich.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
See? Early onset senility. I fergots my grammers.

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
it was just the nostalgia whiplash that frazzled the noggin.

[identity profile] tenalpia.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh nostalgia - I've lost track of how many times I watched this film and most of the other 'Brat Pack' films. I used to wish that I could be as 'stylish' as Molly Ringwald's character - the way she went to that place with clothes in great big piles and managed to create a really 'hot' outfit. Plus she wasn't part of the crowd - so in my book that made her really cool... Hey - I was about 14 ;)

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
I still shop that way, with rather less stylish results.

[identity profile] tenalpia.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh no way - I love your style :)

[identity profile] the-corbie.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha!!! Haven't seen that one in ages. How '80s can you get? :p

Did we already do an '80s nostalgia thread?

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
We did not.

[identity profile] hereward77.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
Weird. We were sorting through old videos, trying to decide on what to trash, when we spotted this. We put it on top of the TV to watch later in the week*.

*There was no wine in the house last night and I'm not watching it sober.

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh hey!! There are parts that are just painfully bad -- I am sure they were profound when I was 12, though. But James Spader is unabashed fun. He is so louche!

[identity profile] sivestrit.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Breakfast Club was on telly the other night.

If it wasn't on so late I would have sat up and watched it.

Molly Ringwald was awesome. Must be weird for her though, I wonder if her career has ever progressed from being that girl that defined being a teenager in the 80s.

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
She lives (at least part time) in NYC, so she must be doing stagework...

[identity profile] the-corbie.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
IMDb lists a lot of TV work. Nothing I've particularly heard of, either.

[identity profile] blanchemains.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
She starred in a musical out here in LA a few months ago. Was it Sweet Charity? I can't recall, but there were commercials on TV for it.

I seem to recall reading that she was living in Europe (France?) and doing films there for a while in the 90s.

Aha! See? Coming soon to a city near you!

(Okay, not YOU Martha. It's a busandtruck show, not Broadway!)

[identity profile] weaklingrecords.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
She's the lead in a national tour of Sweet Charity that just closed here at the Wharton Center. I would have gone to see it but I was in Vegas this past weekend.

"Breakfast Club was on telly the other night."

What! Where? When? How did I miss that? Think I need a Brat Pack reunion session - Breakfast Club, St Elmo's Fire, Pretty in Pink, Footloose and all the others that have excaped my memory for now...

[identity profile] racebannon42.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking fo where are they now... Is Andrew McCarthy still alive?

[identity profile] the-corbie.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Also still alive and similarly doing a lot of guest spots on TV series. Same story for Judd Nelson. Ally Sheedy is at least doing films, but nothing I've ever heard of.

But the kicker is that Andrew Michael Hall apparently played Mutt Lange in 'The Def Leppard Story'. I'm still rolling from that one. :D

sometimes you just need a little duckie.

[identity profile] fenryng.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
This is funny to me NOT because I have seen this or because I have any idea what the melons reference is. Rather, it is funny for the exact opposite, for making me realize just how clueless I am when it comes to any of this eighties stuff.
Pretty in Pink - never seen it.
St. Elmo's Fire - never seen it.
Breakfast Club - never seen it.

WHAT?!?! I was reading! I had more time then than I do now.....besides, if I don't know what I am missing, I obviously don't have to care....not that this will save me from flames, I am sure.

Andrew is looking hot

Not as hot as Stefan, obviously
