I tried on the boots. The heels -- 4.25 in./10.8 cm, for the record -- are simply too tall for me. They looked HAWT. They made my legs look HAWT. But the heel was so high that the ball of my foot was plenty unhappy even after 8 minutes in the things. I suppose an insert would help with that, but I'm not sure I'm ready to spend $400+ on boots that need inserts simply to be wearable for any length of time. :(

with my headmeat still in disarray, I'm a bit loathe to destroy the other end of my body as well. :(

Hurray! I really am a man! Maybe you should get some stilts while you're at it?

That sucks. They did look gorgeous but you're right, you just don't spend that kind of money on shoes that will be torture for your feet if you wear them for more than a few minutes.

Totally. I knew it wasn't meant to be when I was grateful to put my other boots back on.

Oddly enough, I woke up and the first thing that popped into my mind was "These boots are made for walking." :p

If it has heels over an inch or two, it's not wearable, IMO, and requires inserts to be wearable.

good point. I'm not sure these would even be wearable with inserts -- I'm generally pretty intolerant of shoes that hurt my feet (which is why I wear clogs all the damned time). I'm stalking some Chie Mihara shoes (1.5 inch heel) that might have to stand in for these boots.

You did, of course, take pictures of you trying them on, though, right?

useless without pics.

Sorry about the boots. They looked awesome.

HA!! You always deliver. :p
At least you can buy them now and totally rock them without the embarrassment of the two of us showing up to a party WEARING THE SAME THING. OMG! horror. ;-)

Oh gods, don't even think for one second about that horrible scenario. Because I can only imagine - both of us walking into the con party, wearing the same boots - and the outrage that people would have when they saw me and you not coordinate our clothes properly.

I'm certain that's the very first thing they'd think about.

Gosh, what a horrible fate that would be.

They'd probably mock us for not coordinating chest hair, too. Can one buy merkins for that?

Damn! Some day, some designer will make a fortune by creating kick-ass, daily-wear boots that don't hobble the wearer.

It's a pity, because those were indeed stunning, but I'm all for picking comfort over style when you can't have both.

Ah, well. I can just imagine how gorgeous the boots looked on you, but that heel really made me cringe. It's a shame they were designed so impractically, but your feet must be thanking you.

they are totally awesome but I wouldn't be able to wear such high heels, either.

buying footwear should not have to include asking your feet 'how long can I wear these divine boots before you tootsies start screaming in pain?'

I once had a perfect pair of boots. Black nubuck, slouch style up to the top of my calf with a short heel that didn't aggravate my back pain . From Dexter, made in the good old USA. They were so beautiful, comfy and practical. Wore them until the crepe sole was worn smooth. Wore them several more years - just inside and not anywhere where I would be walking on wet surfaces. Still have them in the back of the closet, hoping some day I'll be able to take them to a boot maker and say: "I want these. Make a pair in black, then green, blue, red and paisley".

Someday, your boots will come......

@ kama_police: have you tried getting them resoled? I have a pair of boots that have been resoled twice now(!)

Come to think of it, they are about due for another go.

Expensive shoes are worth it because they can be repaired easily. But painful shoes are expensive at any price.

fuck, that's high. i think 8cm is about the max for me otherwise things became rather unstable since i'm top heavy anyway.

also agree that you don't want to have to mod stuff that costs a lot of money.

keep looking though!

sorry to hear about the height incompatibility, that's a bummer. (but go back and get pics for us!) once i bought a stunning pair of brown wingtip pumps with 4" wooden stacked heels. loved them (frankly still do) and they look phenomenal with my brown 50s housewife dress with polka dots and exposed crinoline. however, they are so damn high i can barely walk in them, they hurt excruciatingly after a half hour, and on the occasion i run into a downhill slope, i am terrified of pitching forward and falling on my face. they need to go in my donate pile, i am simply not designed to wear shoes that high. and i daresay most people aren't.
