I've been depressed all day because of this. It still feels unreal and I didn't even know him as long as you guys did. He intimidated me at first, when I first joined the board. I learned to appreciate him and to admire him. We exchanged a couple of PMs even.
Heck, he intimidated me sometimes, and that's not a thing many people can say. But arguing with EHK was tough, because you knew he'd have some strong arguments and could put them across so fiercely and so well.
Lovely guy in person, though. Friendly and fun. The board won't be the same without him.
I never really had much interaction with him but I knew him by reputation. He certainly sounds like a force to be reckoned with!
It came as a real shock to find out that he had died but I'm glad there was someone there to let all of us know what had happened. It's a real reminder of how fragile our connections can be!
Yeah,I can hardly believe it. When I joined in 2001, I think he was already there. Just imagining the board without him is...impossible. Strangely, the most moving post he ever wrote was about his sister, who also passed away unexpectedly a couple of years ago. I can't begin to understand what his family must go through now when something this terrible happens again, and to such a young and vibrant person.
I had the honour to meet him in person, and he really was a sweetie in real life, really social and easygoing, plus of course very interesting to talk to.
It really feels deeply unfair that it should happen to him, and he will be greatly missed. We may not always have seen eye to eye on everything, but I really appreciated him, and he always had my deepest respect.
He always used to say he liked my rants when I felt someone had insulted Britain. I know I'm not in his league, but I'm going to find something on the board to make an EHK Memorial Rant about.
Absolutely fucking tragic. I can't help wondering what happened.
The EHK Memorial Rant should henceforth be an annual institution. I don't remember ever getting on with him, but I respected him a lot and I'll miss him.
A few months back EHK launched a blistering assault on the Legend of the Seeker IMDB board after losing his rag at the people there talking about how the TV series was going to be amazing because it was based on an 'incredible piece of literature'. I don't remember him doing much on the Goodkind book threads, so it was a bit surprising to see him go apeshit - in his traditional controlled, reasoned and thoroughly-argued was - over there. I remember thinking that no matter how long I post, I will never give as good a rant as that :-(
It was epic and pure EHK. I think he even got in a few comments about smoking as well. Sadly all the posts got deleted, but it's probably how I'll remember him.
Terrible news. He will be greatly missed. :( He was always well spoken and intelligent online and was fun-loving and friendly in person. My thoughts are with his friends and family.
I never met the man, but I've chatted with him fairly often, and this has really put me in an awful mood. The board is diminished. I'll miss his excellent posts, and the friendly chats about totally random things
