It's Pay Attention to Me! (PATM) day chez X. At least, this is what Ethel has been telling me. Loudly. All morning. Mau! Moo! Meow!! Mau! Living room? Check. Kitchen? Check. Bathroom? Triple check.

"I see and hear you Ethelkins, but I am trying to take a poo right now." *pets stripey tabby fur*
"Mau!" *rubs against my legs*
"I know, Ethel. But I'm trying to take a poo right now. You cannot jump in my...Ooof."
"Mau!!"
"OK, so now you are sitting in my lap while I'm taking a poo. I hope you are happy."
"Mau!"

Things like this just underline that cats' brains work differently to ours. One of my sisters cats was ALWAYS trying to sit on top of her bump when she was heavily pregnant. It wasn't satisfied with sitting on her lap, it HAD to climb higher! We used to think that the cats would somehow 'sense' there was something in there and treat it with due respect, but no...

You will have to start locking them out - that's what I have to do with Mr Isis. I DEMAND my right to poo in peace!

Eve is the worst about this. You know how there are dogs and cats that can do useful things, like tell their humans when they're going to have a seizure or something? Eve has the same ability, expect it's tied to when your bladder or bowels need emptying.

One of my late cats -- the recently departed Maeve, Queen of the Faeries -- would not only come into the bathroom while I was seated on the throne, but would then place her paws on the seat atwixt my legs so she could pull herself up and inspect my production quality.

Another used to think it great fun to show off his Olympic gymnastics skills by walking backwards on the rim of the 3rd-floor clawfoot tub. This stopped after he lost his balance while I was showering in that self-same tub, at which point he also discovered that he had failed to learn how to open the shower curtain and make a dignified escape. Good thing I had extra towels handy.
