OK, the snow may go away now
Dec. 21st, 2009 02:19 pmI just tried to run some errands over my lunch time and, yes, the snow can melt at any time now. Narrow tracks (surrounded by cliffs of snow) down the middle of the sidewalk is annoying at the best of times, but when they are clogged by 100,000 gawping tourists creeping down said narrowed passageway 2- or 3-abreast, it's positively maddening. (I work near the Empire State Building and Grand Central Terminal, so I have to run the gauntlet rather often.)
I always try to be polite. Firstly, I like tourists because I think NYC is a groovy town and I'm excited that others are also interested in its history and cultural/architectural offerings. Secondly, a lot of these people have never been to a pedestrian-focused city before, and don't know sidewalk etiquette, so it's always better to assume ignorance rather than malevolence. But if I have to yell "Excuse me, can I get by" three times before I unleash the "HEY DICKHEAD, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY," as I did today, then we're gonna have a problem. Ah well...next time I'll be extra special nice.
