...for my post-dictatorship 'fugee status in Scotland. (Tent city on the 18th hole, St. Andrews. Be there or be Oppressed!)  We had porridge and both black and white pudding for breakfast today. (Am currently soaking beans to make a very non-Scottish 3-bean chili.)

I also cleaned out my sock drawer. Next up is a run through the knickers collection, and also a jettisoning of the shoes.

Sounds like your training is off to a good start. BUT, did you wash it down with whisky? That's the truly important question, imho.

(BTW, I used some of the saffron for the first time tonight! I tried this recipe (but used chicken thighs):

It gave the chicken skin a gorgeous color. And the pan drippings made a nice sauce to spoon over the chicken and some rice. Next time I would add more spice, however.)

Oooh, that sounds good! One note: be careful with saffron, because it can overwhelm dishes, delicate as it is. But damn, does that dinner sound good!!!

I was fairly conservative with my pinch of saffron. The chicken had a light honey taste, with just a bare "whiff" of saffron (if that makes sense).

I might go a bit heavier with the other spices used in the rub, as I didn't feel they came through at all.

Alternatively, could we just pitch it in your backyard? I promise we'll be clean and help you garden. :)

lol - you're welcome to pitch your tent in my backyard but if you put a tent in it then there'll be no need to help me with the garden as you'll have taken up the whole space! Come to think of it... when can you get here? :D

I'm currently drawing up an list of immigration questions. See what you think so far:

1. Do you have a personal faith in Jesus?

2. Haggis or Big Mac?

3. What do you think of the film U571

4. Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Republican Party?

We once tried to feed Parris porridge one morning, the look on her face was a picture. I don't think she could have been more repelled if we had tried to feed her worms.

When the border guards begin questioning your intentions in Scotland, please respond with this useful phrase (make sure to get more flustered as you move through it) - "Amn't I invited?! Lord knows why an auld eejit like me would thole this miserable dreich! God damnit an feck, whisky! Drink, hurry!"
