The trick, however, is to avoid certain mixes. Vodka and cider, no problem. Dark rum and real ale, big problem.

I went for broke. Red wine with dinner (slightly less than 1 glass), then a Sazerac, then a beer, then 1/2 glass of cider.

I think this is why everyone goes for dodgy takeaway after a night on the tiles. That way you can safely say it was food poisoning from the takeaway rather than anything to do with the amount of alcohol consumed. ;)
