In all, a very enjoyable birthday weekend. Friday was spent with [personal profile] misunderstruck [profile] silanah [profile] 2pumps [profile] isis_newton [personal profile] yagathai [profile] ailiergauche and a whole raft of people not currently on LJ, including my friend N and his Totally Metal ladyfriend J, and a few more BwB -- nazfyratu, DVD-Rots, TC and Bellis.

As I mentioned earlier, it was Nerd-fest at the karaoke joint. Lots of Iron Maiden was butchered, along with Rush, Dio and Queen (actually, Sean's rendition was pretty damned great). Sean performed an amazing version of Richard Marx that will reverberate in the spacetime continuum for the next 30 years. [profile] ailiergauche got the room jumping with House of Pain, and Doug channeled both Weezer and Bruce Springsteen. Silanah and Bellis helped me out with Dolly Parton (why yes, I love the song 9 to 5), but I think the attention whore medal does end up going to me and Yags. We stomped our pride and got singing while everyone was sober, and then kept singing any time there was a slight pause in who was going to sing next. Duets on The Trooper and Holy Diver and Carry On Wayward Son and at least 5 other songs. This place has DREAM THEATRE and SYMPHONY X in addition to Queensryche and Nightwish and Sonata Arctica and Yngwie. We closed out the set with The Gambler by Kenny Rogers, which might be one of my all-time favorite close-out songs ever.

Anyway, next day was somewhat subdued (tired, hungover, etc). Some EPL at a bar with a bunch of people already drunk at 10am. Breakfast with Isis. Lunch with two of Yags friends while Ailiergauche was off at a free show in Central Park. A nap. A trip to LeNells, where I learned that there is a mezcal that is made with a chicken. Now, I'm not a big mezcal drinker, but if it somehow employs blessed chickens, I must partake at least one. Dinner. I declared birthday girl prerogative and went to bed at 11pm on my own damned birthday. I was just...done. Doug and Patrick went to a bar. I think Mike talked to the cats.

Sunday was breakfast and goodbyes. I went to bed at 9pm. Yes, I am still that tired from Denver. But shit should be sorted soon. And anyway, both weekends were worth it. :D

Breakfast with Isis.

I read that as "Buckfast with Isis". Now there's a way to start a Saturday morning.

We would have fit right in with Spurs supporters, that's for sure.

I really do wonder what time they started. There was some impressive drunk action occurring at 10.30am.

I totally think that birthdays need to be a day for doing waht you damn well please. after a few years of somehow not-quite-right birthdays I spent a couple of them on my own just to evade any drama. But I recently discovered the antidote to birthday blues (I usually feel low around my birthday for some reason) is to spend the day with the bwb.

Personally I am existing in a tired/wide awake place right now. dead, but still alive just like leonard cohen as Neil said in The Young Ones once.

Sounds like a most excellent birthday - all birthday celebrations should consist of one party day / night followed by a day of 'Do as you please' and yes - if you can get the bwb into the mix then you are onto a definite winner :D

Yes, I am still that tired from Denver.

I'm not surprised. You got all of, what, 5 hours of sleep?

We would have loved to have joined in the fun, but were too darn tired to venture far this weekend. Actually, I barely left the couch at all. Obviously, I'm getting too old for this sort of thing!

"I wish for this nighttime to last for a lifetime..." indeed... in perfect operatic soprano too, I'm sure. :-) Happy birthday again, oh most brave and admired of all shrimp.

Sounds like it was a great weekend. No fair having two in a row, no fair!

We are still recuperating ourselves; how is your recovery for sleep going?

I saw the pics posted and thought it looked like an amazing amount of fun. Sorry I wasn't there!

I'm still exhausted from worldCon, so I can only imagine how tired you are. You are a trooper.
