So, this weekend I got all wigged out about zombies. No, I have no earthly idea why -- these things just happen sometimes.

Today, it's the Fear of a Crashed Hard-drive. Two of my contribs had hard-drive crashes this weekend -- which ups my tally of mayhem to 4 dead computers in 1 year, two crippling back injuries, and one nervous breakdown. Just for my contributors. I am not a mean editor, I swear! In any case, I bought a USB flash drive to back up my feature package I'm editing. And since Staples is right next door to The Compleat Strategist, I spent an unseemly amount of time ogling the dice. I think I need help.

And just to ice the paranoia cake, one of the stories is on potential global pandemics. Smallpox was a vicious disease. Just...awful. I hope we never see it unleashed in the population again. The rest of the day will be spent contemplating the awfulness of this virus.

And to think, people accuse me of cheerfulness...

It's all fun and games until the Variola escapes the lab.

It sounds like the name of a musical instrument -- whose melodies are screams!

My Rx:

1) Remind yourself that zombies are slow and easy to outrun.

2) You've already covered this by buying the USB, so you're all set.

3) Vaccines are our friend.

Now, go have a frosty beverage. *firm nod*

I will drink the fear away.

Fear of hard drive failure just drove me to buy a brand new computer. Our old rig wheezed and froze and did everything it could to warn us of impending doom. And since I didn't want to touch Vista, I had to buy a new one before June 30.

It (literally) just arrived. I'm salivating about its processing power.

<--- jealous.

I am curious about its smallpox-fighting power. Barring that, what about its zombie-fighting power?

I will fight zombies with a Four Horse Chariot quad core processor and 4,000 mighty bighorn rams 4 gigs of ram.

Okay, I have to confess to confusion.

Was the list you rattled off things YOU have suffered from so far this year? If so, I do not recall you ever mentioning back injuries?

Smallpox, huh? Ever read the Hot Zone?

Have you ever played an RPG?

Heh. Zombies. The one horror genre I just cannot get Charlene to enjoy.

And to think that last week I was only bothered by such a mundane thing as a *dream* about my tote bags being stolen from under my nose. Maybe it was a zombie that did the deed.

I have a low-level zombie paranoia... all the time.

I also have a higher level of infectious disease paranoia...all the time.

Strategist! Oh joy, oh rapture! Though I don't think I've actually bought anything there in years. (I'm an old wargame guy, not RPGer. Panzerblitz, anyone?)

I know. I still visit the place regularly, but I tend to buy my games direct these days.
