xraytheenforcer: (facepalm)

After complaining for two days that we had no Star Trek to watch (I get it in my head every now and again that I want to watch ST -- any ST), I got my wish in the form of a TNG mini-marathon on SciFi channel. Where I was treated to the sight of the crew being dressed like Robin Hood and his Merry Men, and of Worf (I AM NOT A MERRY MAN!) engaging in the most incompetent sword play I've seen outside a high-school production of Hamlet.

They talk tough, all right, but they're just big wusses.

Also, I always think of Klingon's fighting with the two-handled bat'leths, which are handled rather differently than a traditional human sword.

Besides, when you're dressed up in scarlet like a dandy, it is certainly not a good day to die.

I don't understand why they just don't use the force like everybody else.

They're too busy playing with magic rings.

Sad, but so very true.

So those redshirts keep getting offed because they're a wee bit too dandified?

You know, from an aesthetic point of view, I like the bat'leth. From a utilitarian standpoint, not so much. It always struck me as being more of a defensive weapon, which, by itself, I do not mind. I have always been a defensive-minded person.

But Klingons do not strike me as being defensive in nature. More of the scream and leap category.

And you know, I have always been of the opinion that the day you die is really going to suck, no matter what.

Worf should be a cage fighter. *nods*

I wonder if those forehead knobs would be a help or hindrance?

A help. Head-butting, you know. Unless you happen to do it to Data. A Klingon tried that, once. Data won.

I AM NOT A MERRY MAN!

Classic.

(And if you're still in the mood for more Star Trek, we have all of TOS and DS9 on DVD, ya know.)

Ooooooh shit. If we're not watching Firefly, we are gonna be on our asses watching DS9.

I'm glad that combat scenes in Sci-Fi shows improved so much.

Even Deep Space Nine, was much better.
By that time they had discovered that Klingons and Gem'Hadar shared a critical weakness. Their kryptonite, if you will.
The epic, two-fisted Super-Punch, which worked wonders for Starfleet officers and puny Cardassian tailors in hand-to-hand combat against these ferocious foes.

Lolz. The two-fisted super punch must be the staple of combat training at the Academy.

Give credit where credit is due. Optimus Prime taught the Starfleet this secret weapon. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXG_zG2SEaw)

I was in traction for a week. :(

Just out of curiosity, I tried that once on a punching bag.

Damn near dislocated both of my pinky fingers, and bruised the hell out of them.

And got no force whatsoever.

Just saw that episode myself recently. I still think I'd rather die that live in the Star Trek TNG universe.

OMG I saw the same re-run episode on SF, and thought "wow, this must be a low-point for TNG."

:p
