Even the somewhat-enlightened sites are not free from idiocy.
In fact, in just the last 10 minutes I've learned (from the comments on a feminist blog) that sex isn't really sex if there isn't a cock involved. Right. You know, is it too motherfucking much to expect that women on a feminist blog might....just might! be able to shed the shackles of heterosexism when they're talking about someone else's sex life? Newsflash: Not everyone is straight, you ignorant turdpile.

I've also learned that "u r a fag," but we knew that already, didn't we? ;-)

Zactly. I get so scared when I read comments on the net - CNN user comments make baby Jesus cry. Makes me wanna crawl into a space deep inside my home and never come back out. Instead, I go hiking in the mountains to escape from it and I've yet to meet and talk to hiker I didn't like.

It amazed me when I first took a gander at youtube comments.
Seriously, ultimate cesspit of the Internet is not an exaggeration).

These days, I've set it so that I only see comments rated +5 or above. It's a filter, and it really does work... I've yet to see a single one.
I did the same for slashdot back when I used to read it years ago and it was ahead of almost everywhere else with the comments thing.

I try to keep myself from reading internet comments, as I'm fairly sure it kills brain cells, and almost invariably makes me want to hurl The Billy Madison at everyone. But it is a spectacular train wreck and I cannot look away. Even though it destroys my faith in humanity and my soul dies a little each time I read.

In all seriousness, yes, YouTube comments truly contain the worst ramblings imaginable, the amount of racist, sexist, homophobic idiocy on display makes it clear humans are not in fact evolved or civilized. And we may in fact be devolving.
