It's Mo-fficial. We signed the lease + The Brooklyn Cocktail

Names in blood, and all that. Lease is signed, we move in on the 30th or the 1st. Hopefully this will curb my recent crankiness. Between the apartment and the heat, I've been on the verge of quasar-level flaming certain people (on the boards, IRL, my boss, my writers) for the smallest of infractions. Bleargh. I need to save that hate for...the next election.

America, Fuck Yeah!

Celebratory Sealing-the-Deal Drink, Brooklyn Version.
The Brooklyn. There is only one borough of NYC who doesn't, to my cursory knowledge, have a drink named after it: Staten Island. (Doug and I have very specific ideas on what might go into a Staten Island -- nothing you'd wanna drink, fer sure.) Anyway, the Brooklyn is the lesser-known cousin to the classic Manhattan and the Bronx. In this version, made by Matt, bartender at the Brooklyn Social Club (a favorite gin mill), the Brooklyn is built with Gran Gala (an orange liqueur). Instead of a cherry, garnish with a flamed orange peel.

The Brooklyn
2 oz rye whisky (Matt uses Old Overholt. We use Rittenhouse)
1 oz Gran Gala
2 dashes Angostura bitters

Stir ingredients over ice. Strain into chilled cocktail glass. Flame the orange peel (we'll teach y'all how to do this in LA, BwB peeps), then drop into drink. Extend the Bird to Manhattan (poor fuckers), sit on yer brownstone stoop, and watch the goombahs drive by. (or, in our case, the MILFs with the double-strollers.)

Yay new place!

Good luck with the move... at this point I hope we never move again, but who knows, in 10 years I may forget the pain and suffering...

many thanks, Odie!! But with a sweet place like yours, there is no need to move for a long, long time. I must be honest -- I am most nervous of teh books. :p

You'll be fine :)

Like I told Davos - I'm 100% sure this isn't the best house for us, but I'm also 100% sure I can't afford that other house ;)

Thankee. I need to email you a quick how-to for the flamed orange peel (unless, of course, you decide to grace LA with your presence ohpleaseohplease.)

That's x-ray for you isis.

Congratulation on the lease, perhaps now West Brooklyn and East Manhattan can sleep a little better?

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha. Maybe a bit. But then I'll destroy it with devil drink again! Haw.

[identity profile] xraytheenforcer.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes. (actually, no. only those posts with recipes in 'em or booze musings get the tag.)

Glad to hear you cats aren't homeless-bound. I gotta admit that it's a lot less stressful when you get to read the whole escapade in one fail swoop and it ends with victory. Looking forward to hearing about the new quarters

yay, you have a place to live! i'm sure that's been a whole lot of no fun to deal with, but glad it's getting sorted. i'd offer to help with the moving if i weren't a cripple and in georgia, but my roomie and i will drink mint juleps on the porch in yr honor, does that help any?
