Behold...the Arctopus! are playing a gig at Club Europa in February. \m/

That brings back memories of 2002/early 2003, when I was to see [livejournal.com profile] meh_of_munich 's brother and his band at the old Knitting Factory. I didn't get out of work in time to see their set (that was when I was still a fact checker, I think, and I wasn't the master of my own schedule), but I got there in time to see the headliner -- this trio of total freaks, one of whom was playing a fucking Warr guitar. That was some insane shit, man.

My boyfriend loves that band.

Given how proggy they are, I'm surprised you like them. I wasn't aware you were a prog fan.

I actually like a lot of prog rock, but not a lot of prog metal. I think it's the mix of crazy guitar tones and no vocals that give BtA! the edge over other prog metal bands for me. (I totally get why people like prog metal, but it's one of those subgenres that hasn't, for the most part, resonated with my general music tastes.)

I think I may have been at that Knitting Factory show; I certainly saw that band a few times around then. More strings-per-person than most bands I've seen!

holy shit, what are the chances?! hahaha.

I loved that Marston looked like such a tweaker, and Zeleny wouldn't be out of place in the Rollins Band.

I was distracted by the song title in your Current Music: nachash is the Hebrew word for "snake" and as a proper noun is the name of the snake in the Garden of Eden tale.

The name of the album is "Through the Cervix of Hawwah" so the Garden of Eden snake reference makes a lot of sense. Learn something new every day!

ha, I forgot about that. How do you feel about hasidic punk?*

* as I understand it, my brother's current project

Ha! I have never heard of hasidic punk, so I don't have an opinion. It can't be any worse than christian black metal (corpsepaint for jeebus!).
