There are 219 bands whose name includes the word "goat." Or, more precisely, adheres to *goat* in naming convention; that number drops to 170 if one uses goat* (where * is a wildcard). Notable monikers include Goatwhore, Goathammer, Goatfather and Goatpenis.

All Hail the Mighty Metal Goats.

When I was little (like, 4 or 5) my uncle gave me a pet goat. I wonder if this fact adds to my (almost non-existent) metal cred?

;-P

Indeed. In fact, it's one of the only SFW "Goat" band names.

I am a fan of Goatstodon and Goat O Negative, though there was some Goatchinehead that was pretty awesome this morning too.

NEW BAND: Goatsteros, all from the POV of Dolorous Edd and his goats. It'll be a massive hit.

Alas, ASOIAF is way too power metal, and there are very few power metal bands who want "goat" in their names. There'd be serious fan backlash, like if George wrote The Winds of Winter as an urban fantasy.

Which, now that I think about it, he should do. That'll learn the haters.

Once upon a time, in a remote village up in the mountains, there lived a family of goats. Goatfather had a penchant for naming his Goatpenis the Goathammer, and he's rather fond of using his Goathammer on Goatwhore, who lived in the next farm over. One day, when Goatfather was hammering away at the Goatwhore, filling the crisp pristine mountain air with earnest sounds of bleating, a dark-cloaked stranger came up behind him, catlike, and the entire Goatvillage was never the same again.

Clearly Goathammer is the classy, intellectual band.

Indeed. Unfortunately, I cannot find lyrics to back that up.

I keep meaning to do a post for GoatLord on "metal crypt mp3".

One of these days...

Also, I've done the same thing with "beer" on MA, so fun.
Need to get more creative with their advanced search.

219 bands with "goat" in their name...

I'm going out on a limb and saying that less than 20 of those bands are any good.

Haha I always get crap for liking goatpenis (the band, not the.....). But does this research imply that there are seriously 49 bands named "goat"? The singer from father befouled uses the moniker ghoat, that's always bothered me.

Also; I was trying to find you on Saturday night to talk baseball, I'd just seen the ryan braun performance enhancing drug headline!! (Also I haven't slept yet so if all of this is incoherent, blame san antonio)

Your use of the wildcard function makes me feel like making out with you. I followed your example with capri*, and it returned 13 names.

You're making me want to dig out my copy of All Known Metal Bands to see how many goat bands there were when it was printed, to calculate the approximate growth rate of goat metal band names.
